第四章では、スバルがエミリアと共に聖域へ向かう途中で起こる出来事を描いています。聖域は魔法使いエキドナが作った場所で、そこでは試練を受けることで自分自身や過去を知ることができます。しかし、聖域では魔女教の幹部や魔獣などの敵も待ち構えており、スバルは再び死に戻りを繰り返します。また、スバルは自分の能力の秘密や、「憤怒の魔女」と呼ばれるサテラという女性との関係も明らかになります。

The protagonist is Subaru Natsuki, an ordinary high school student who is suddenly transported to another world one day. There he meets a silver-haired beauty named Emilia, her contract spirit Puck, twin maids Rem and Ram, and various other people, and he deepens his friendship and love with them while going on adventures and battles.

The feature of this story is that Subaru has the ability of “Return by Death”. This means that when Subaru dies, time goes back to a certain point. Subaru can redo each time with his past memories intact, but he has to suffer and despair every time he dies. Also, he cannot tell anyone about this ability, so Subaru struggles to protect his precious people while enduring loneliness.

The story is divided into four big chapters. The first chapter depicts the first day that Subaru came to the other world. Subaru cooperates with Emilia to retrieve her stolen insignia, but he is killed many times. In the end, he survives with Emilia with the help of the Sword Saint Reinhard, but he collapses due to the wound he received.

The second chapter depicts the week that Subaru spends at Emilia’s mansion. Subaru works at the mansion as a way of thanking Emilia, and he meets twin maids Rem and Ram, and the master of the mansion Roswaal. However, there are attacks and curses happening at the mansion. Subaru dies many times, but he becomes friends with Rem and Ram while solving the mystery of the incident.

The third chapter depicts the events that happen on the way to the royal capital with Emilia. The royal election is taking place in the capital, and Emilia is one of the candidates. However, there are various conspiracies and assassination plots swirling in the capital, and Subaru gets involved in them. Also, an evil organization called the Witch Cult and a terrifying existence called the Witch of Greed appear. Subaru overcomes the crisis with his friends such as Emilia and Rem.

The fourth chapter depicts the events that happen on the way to the sanctuary with Emilia. The sanctuary is a place created by the witch Echidna, where one can take trials and learn about oneself and one’s past. However, there are also enemies such as the Witch Cult’s leaders and beasts waiting in the sanctuary, and Subaru repeats his return by death again. Also, Subaru learns the secret of his ability and his relationship with a woman called Satella, who is known as the Witch of Wrath.

Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World- is a genre called dark fantasy. That means that it is not a story where one can live happily and peacefully in another world, but a story where one faces cruel reality and hardship. However, that is not all. This story also depicts Subaru’s efforts to change himself and others, and his bonds and love with his friends. And it also shows how they make Subaru stronger.
